"Between the Lines" of the Branch Visit
by TTATTelder ini am starting this thread to discuss the financial points i picked up during the branch visit.. firstly - as an elder we were told that all donations from the event - local and worldwide work were to be sent to the branch.
first of all - could the money-grab be any more obvious given these instructions?
is it even legal to take funds a person gave to a non-profit for one specific purpose (pay the light bill) to allocate them for another (www slush fund)?

An RTO can be a volunteer working from his/her own home translating materials.

Did Josephus believe in Jesus as The Christ?
by opusdei1972 inhere is the questioned josephus' text :.
now, there was about this time jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call him a man, for he was a doer of wonderful worksa teacher of such men as receive the truth with pleasure.
he drew over to him both many of the jews, and many of the gentiles.

Josephus was born in the year 37. So, he never really met Jesus - that is an easy to establish FACT.
Generally that paragraph is thought to be forged - Josephus was in a sense misquoted, something as we know not uncommon in religion.
But then even if he did write that, refer back to point one - they never met, so everything was hearsay.

For those not satisfied with the 95% evolution, abiogenesis, fossil record and the big-bang can currently explain: "God did it" would satisfy their curiosity.

Awake January 2015: How did life begin? - More misquotes
by Designer Stubble in
some might assume that a scientifically-minded person would pick evolution and that a religious person would pick creation.
but not always.. rama singh, professor of biology at canadas mcmaster university, says: the opposition to evolution goes beyond religious fundamentalism and includes a great many people from educated sections of the population.
.
end-of-quote in awake.

I have emailed Dr. Singh:
Dear Dr. Singh,
In the January 2015 Awake article, published by Jehovah's Witnesses, you are misquoted, from what I can tell. The article, "How did life begin", states on page 3: Rama Singh, professor of biology at Canada’s McMaster University, says: “The opposition to evolution goes beyond religious fundamentalism and includes a great many people from educated sections of the population.” The quote ends there, but I believe based on Darwin's Legacy, should continue: ...who may not be logically opposed to evolution nevertheless do not accept it. This is because the process of and the evidence for evolution are invisible to a nonspecialist, or the theory may look too simple to explain complex traits to some, or because people compare evolution against God and find evolutionary explanations threatening to their beliefs. Considering how evolution affects our lives, including health and the environment to give just two examples, a basic course in evolution should become a required component of all our college and university educational systems. By misquoting you, the reader is misled. The article can be found here: http://www.jw.org/en/publications/magazines/g201501/evolution-vs-creation/ I thought you should know this and would be interested in knowing your thoughts. Kind regards,
DS

SOME might assume that a scientifically-minded person would pick “evolution” and that a religious person would pick “creation.” But not always.
Rama Singh, professor of biology at Canada’s McMaster University, says: “The opposition to evolution goes beyond religious fundamentalism and includes a great many people from educated sections of the population.”
end-of-quote in Awake
Actual Rama quote however continues:
...who may not be logically opposed to evolution nevertheless do not accept it.
Then the article continues by naming a "Gerard", professor of Entomology. His last name is not mentioned anywhere, although he is referenced THREE times in this article. They may as well call him "Andre".
And what I mention here is just the tip of the iceberg. Anyone slightly educated in Evolution will blast this Awake to pieces. Google may be my friend, but certainly not that of the WTBTS.

Everyone asked to take their literature back to the KH?
by MrMonroe inmay be bullshit or just confusion, but here's a post at a facebook ex-jw page:.
"so last night i performed one of my occasional meeting attendances, and whilst watching the kids and planning my exit strategy in the event of a walking dead style zombie outbreak, i think i heard them read a letter saying that the brothers are now to destroy all old literature in their possession if it's in bad condition, or return it to the elders if it's in good condition, but you can no longer keep any old literature... hmmm".
anyone know anything about this letter?
-
Designer Stubble
I doubt this is real. We would have otherwise heard it from multiple sources and would have had the letter leaked. This FB poster has been asked for a copy of the letter, yet this request is totally ignored.
